The two topics, quantum optics and control of quantum dynamics<\/strong>, make up the\u00a0themes of the 71st Scottish Summer School in Physics, which has three main objectives:<\/p>\n

  1. To broaden and deepen<\/strong> the background knowledge of young researchers in the general areas of\u00a0quantum optics and quantum dynamics through the simple medium of a series of advanced lectures\u00a0given by acknowledged experts<\/a> in the field.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      \n
    1. To provide a perspective<\/strong> of the latest research and future trends in this area via a set of hot topics\u00a0shorter sessions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        \n
      1. To stimulate<\/strong> new research collaborations and ideas among peers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        The summer school will provide an intensive programme<\/a>, with formal lectures and discussion sessions. There will be a programme<\/a> of social and cultural events in order to help create a relaxed and stimulating atmosphere for interaction and learning. Most lecturers will give four one-hour lectures which will enable them to start from a tutorial introduction and hopefully proceed to state-of-the-art developments in their area. The daily programme<\/a> typically runs from 09.00-20.30, with the evening sessions being a combination of social and non-lecture activities. A\u00a0rest day is included in the programme<\/a>.<\/p>\n
